The Bitten Planet of Suspended Space (Teijikuukan no Kajirareboshi) is the thirty-second episode of the animated series Galaxy Express 999. It premiered on 26 April 1979 on Fuji TV.
Summary[]
Tetsuro meets Edmond, a fellow passenger on the 999 who is looking forward to returning to his homeworld on their next stop. He is surprised, however, when he is told that the planet has been re-named and many things are different. It is revealed that the government of the planet has been selling much of the land to other planets because it is edible. Edmund attacks the government agents overseeing the removal of land, but is captured!
"It was not much longer before the Bitten Planet was eaten away entirely and vanished. Tetsuro doesn't know what happened to Edmond after that."

Edmond is on board the 999, looking to return to his home planet for the first time in 50 years. His home planet is SweetSweet, where he grew up in its warm atmosphere and beautiful land. He is devastated to learn that the planets name was changed to the Bitten Planet 30 years ago, and his home bears no resemblance to what it did as a child. After trying to fight those who ruined his planet, he returns to the 999, determined to find a second home. Edmond is exclusive to the anime

Travelers will notice massive rumblings that feel like earthquakes, but are just giant shovels going into the ground to start digging when land is sold. Vessels travel from the planet to export soil. Travelers come to the planet to dig for soil and then sell it elsewhere. This results in the planet getting smaller and smaller, and shortly after the 999 leaves, simply vanishing.
Changes[]
- Edmond is almost exclusive to the anime in that his face is not seen in the manga, and the interaction with Maetel and Tetsuro is expanded upon in the TV series.
- In the anime, the ship returns to the planet, and Tetsuro and Maetle go to investigate. In the manga, after Tetsuro tastes the soil of the planet, the two return to the 999.
